Of all life’s many mysteries, that age-old conundrum of what makes us who we are continues to defy answers.
What does drive us? What makes someone like you different from, say, the late great singer Leonard Cohen, or talk-show host Oprah Winfrey, or actor and filmmaker Woody Allen?
Is there more to explaining personality than upbringing and genetics?
According to a well-known personality typing system known as the Enneagram, each of us fits into one of nine different personality types or styles. Each one of these types has its own unique worldview and set of motivations, which creates a distinct way of thinking, feeling, and acting.
Different personalities even have a distinct way of breathing, says Enneagram expert Sean Esbjörn-Hargens.
After working with the Enneagram system for 20 years, Sean can even observe the behavior of public figures like Oprah, Cohen, and Allen and come up with educated guesses as to their personality types.
But dive a little deeper into the system, and you’ll soon realize that determining personality type is merely a starting-off point on a journey which will shine a spotlight on your strengths and weaknesses and challenge you to look inside yourself to the motivations that drive your personality and behaviors.
And from there, profound personal change can happen, and it can happen in ways you might not have even thought about.
Let’s say, for example, you have been offered a new job, but you can’t decide whether to take the offer. Your head says yes, but your heart and belly say no. The Enneagram actually teaches us how to integrate these three aspects of our wisdom so we can effectively make important decisions.
As facilitator of this one-day event, Sean invites you to bring such problems to the workshop where they can be explored using the higher wisdom of the Enneagram.
He will also take you through various exercises and movement processes to help you access and learn from different aspects of your personality.
To determine your personality type, Sean recommends that you complete one of the online assessments provided by Integrative Enneagram Solutions (a South African company which is pioneering the use of the Enneagram in organizations). Here is the link.
