30-Day Online Embodiment Challenge

Just Once a Week!

There is more wisdom in your body than in your deepest philosophy.
– Friedrich Nietzsche, German philosopher

The LifeWork team is committed to exploring the wisdom of the body. We’re learning that being mindful and responding to the body can dramatically lower the negative effects of day-to-day living. Sounds simple enough, but not so easy to put into practice. Over the course of our lives, we’ve probably learned to move away from the guidance of our senses. Instead, we may be relying primarily on our thoughts and ideas to make our way through the world. As a result, we might be missing out on the important messages that the body makes available to us — and more importantly, we’re missing out on feeling good from the inside out.

In April, LeeAnn Mallorie, one of our faculty members and founder of Leading in Motion. offered a Just Once A Week: 30-Day Embodiment Challenge.

Our team took part in Just Once a Week, and we shared some of our successes, challenges, aha’s, and thoughts along the way. It was an enlightening experience that not only reinvigorated our relationships with our bodies but also with each other.

Please note If you’re interested in “getting more embodied,”write us a note below (“Yes to embodiment”) and we’ll let you know about the next opportunity.

  • Grace Welker says:

In Week 2, the LifeWork team continued to dive in and explore what is means to be embodied — and how little shifts make a big impact. Having each other to connect with in the challenge definitely helps keep us engaged.

We find ourselves getting more and more individualized in terms of our unique embodiment practices and experiments. Each of us has discovered an area of inquiry has naturally emerged, including:

    • overcoming resistance
    • paying more attention to body signals
    • exploring body comfort
    • getting more effortful

We find that we are making new — better — choices, whether to choose to walk instead of take the elevator or say “yes” to a friend’s hiking invitation or invest in more comfortable clothes.

And with the things we would be doing anyway — making Passover matzoh, walking uphill, taking a shower — we are experiencing more awareness of and presence in our bodies. That mind-body-self connection is translating as greater pleasure, sense of accomplishment, deepened meaning — and more freedom and energy.

As one of us put it, he’s really living the question, “What does it feel like to feel good”?

  • Karen Norris says:

Yes to embodiment. Please let us know if another opportunity is offered.

  • Grace Welker says:

Week 1 was a challenge for the LifeWork team — an enjoyable challenge but a challenge nonetheless. We definitely found that having other people to do this with helped … either it helped us to get started and or to continue after we’d made the first effort and then lost focus. For a couple of us, being a part of the challenge brought new intention to our usual ways of working with our bodies — either workouts at the gym or yoga sun salutations in the morning — and we were able to find new depth and/or pleasure in the experience.

Thank you for this opportunity to learn something new and something helpful. At 39, I am finally learning that we can all help each other and our world if we share freely and generously. This program looks to be such an example of the helping spirit.
